black&brown box, 1991

The Black & Brown Box is part of the graduation project of Casimir, who completed his studies in Industrial Design
in Genk in 1991. The design immediately stood out and was included in the new collection of Belgian design assembled
by the Ghent gallery Ziggurat, presented that same year at Interieur '92 in Kortrijk alongside work by Raf Simons, Christian Kiekens and Dirk Meylaerts, among others.

The piece reveals a different Casimir from the bold, monumental furniture he later became known for.
Two 25 x 25 x 25 cm cubes, one black and one brown, stand on a forest of crooked, crossing legs.
Only on closer inspection do you discover the drawers: a storage piece that keeps its function to itself.
Playful, experimental and deliberately unsettling, this graduation work marks the true starting point of his oeuvre.
