ETRE MODERNE
is a design studio founded by Philippe Vermeersch and Caroline Gielen. Our work moves between product design, ceramics and vintage design. We design new objects, create our own work and select existing pieces that appeal to us. Rather than focusing on a specific discipline, we are interested in the object, its form, material and story.
PHILIPPE VERMEERSCH
studied Product Development at the University of Antwerp and worked for more than ten years as a product designer at architecture firm Bart Lens. Today, he works as a freelance product designer at Eden Design in Genk.
CAROLINE GIELEN
studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven and has a background in graphic design. Today, she focuses mainly on ceramics and her own artistic practice. She also teaches children and young people at the Academy of Visual Arts in Heusden-Zolder.
These different backgrounds come together within Etre Moderne.
We design, make and collect, exploring the connections between contemporary design, craftsmanship and vintage.
The result is a broad yet coherent practice focused on designing,
making, finding and bringing together good objects.
